Recruiting new members and retaining current ones by showcasing the professional networking, educational resources, and career growth benefits of ASHRAE

The Membership Promotion (MP) Committee is a mandatory standing committee at the chapter level. It plays a vital role in ensuring the growth and sustainability of the chapter by proactively engaging with new, current, and prospective members. On a web page, this committee represents the welcoming front door and the retention engine of the chapter.
The MP Committee is primarily responsible for the recruitment of new members across all industry segments, the retention of existing members, and the encouragement of current members to advance to higher membership grades. Working closely with chapter officers, the committee monitors member status, executes strategic membership drives, and ensures that everyone participating locally is a registered member of the Society in good standing.
Core Responsibilites:
The committee actively identifies and attracts new individuals from all segments of the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and allied industries to become active participants locally and at the Society level.
To reduce membership lapses and resignations, the committee monitors cancellation reports and systematically contacts delinquent members on a monthly basis to encourage renewal.
The committee reviews the qualifications of existing members and encourages them to upgrade to higher membership statuses (such as advancing from Associate to Full Member) as their industry experience grows.
In coordination with the Chapter Secretary, the committee verifies that all prospective and current chapter members maintain a valid, bona fide membership in good standing with the global ASHRAE Society.
The committee organizes and runs localized recruitment campaigns, which include targeted outreach to local consulting firms and businesses within affiliated fields.
Upon receiving notice of a new member assignment, the committee reaches out to welcome them, shares upcoming event details, coordinates with the Reception Committee for proper introductions at meetings, and encourages them to pay local chapter dues.
The committee reviews meeting attendance records to track prospective leads and provides a computer with internet access at local chapter meetings so interested guests can easily join online.
In collaboration with the Student Activities and Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA) committees, the MP committee contacts graduating student members to help them transition into professional membership through the discounted SmartStart program.
The committee evaluates the membership status and tenure of local chapter members to select and recommend eligible candidates for regional or Society-level honors and awards.
The MP Committee Chair represents the chapter at the Chapters Regional Conference (CRC) workshop and completes specialized Membership Promotion Centralized Training to align local efforts with global Society growth goals.
