Student Activities Chair

Connecting students with industry professionals through STEM outreach, university branches, scholarships, and career development.

The Student Activities Committee (SAC) serves as a vital bridge between the local ASHRAE chapter and educational institutions. Appointed by the President-Elect, this committee plays a crucial role in cultivating the next generation of HVAC&R professionals by engaging with students, faculty, and school groups at all educational levels—from high schools to universities. Through mentorship, scholarship coordination, and student branch development, the committee promotes industry awareness and fosters professional growth for incoming talent.
Core Responsibilites:
Act as the primary point of contact and liaison between the local ASHRAE chapter and nearby area educational institutions.
Develop, manage, and coordinate student incentives, awards, and scholarships to support academic excellence and engagement in the industry.
Encourage and support the formation and ongoing operational success of student engineering groups, specifically ASHRAE Student Branches.
Actively recruit new student members to join the Society and participate in local chapter initiatives.
Provide valuable information regarding current and future HVAC&R industry needs to both students and faculty members using counseling, targeted programs, and group discussions.
Promote the inclusion of specialized credit courses in heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigerating fields at universities, colleges, technical institutes, and junior colleges.
Organize and provide knowledgeable speakers to engage with and present to high school and college groups.
Offer individual counseling and mentorship to college students to promote career opportunities and spark interest within the HVAC&R fields.
Plan and execute visual aid presentations tailored for high schools and trade school groups, utilizing resource materials available through the Regional Vice Chair (RVC) for Student Activities.
Cooperate closely with and seek administrative and strategic advice from the RVC for Student Activities.
Actively monitor and enter Student Activities PAOE (Performance Advancement of Award Excellence) points progressively throughout the year as activities take place.
Collaborate with the Membership Promotion and Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA) committees to connect with graduating student members. This involves encouraging them to transition to full professional membership via the SmartStart program, ideally contacting them two to three months prior to graduation.
