About ASHRAE
WHAT IS ASHRAE
ASHRAE Society

Founded in 1894, ASHRAE is dedicated to advancing human well-being through sustainable technology for the built environment. The Society and its members focus on building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, refrigeration and sustainability within the industry. Through research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education, ASHRAE shapes tomorrow’s built environment today.
ASHRAE was formed as the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers by the merger in 1959 of American Society of Heating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHAE) founded in 1894, and The American Society of Refrigerating Engineers (ASRE) founded in 1904.
In 2012, as part of a rebranding, ASHRAE began doing business as “ASHRAE” vs. using its full legal name of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers. Use of ASHRAE reflects the Society’s worldwide membership and that services will continue evolving globally.
ASHRAE Conferences
ASHRAE holds two major conferences each year: the Winter Conference and the Annual Conference. Both bring together members and professionals from across the HVAC&R, building, and energy industries, but they have different primary focuses.
ASHRAE Winter Conference
The Winter Conference is generally held in January or February and focuses heavily on:
- Technical sessions and educational programs
- Research and technical committee meetings
- Development and maintenance of ASHRAE standards and guidelines
- Society and industry meetings
- Networking with HVAC&R professionals
- The AHR Expo, which is often held in conjunction with the conference
The Winter Conference is typically the larger of the two events and is a major gathering for technical professionals and the broader HVAC&R industry.
ASHRAE Annual Conference
The Annual Conference is generally held in June and focuses on:
- ASHRAE Society governance and leadership
- Chapter and regional leadership
- Technical sessions and educational programs
- Research and standards activities
- Society business and planning
- Networking and professional development
The Annual Conference is particularly important for ASHRAE volunteers, chapter leaders, regional leaders, and Society leadership.

ASHRAE Regions and Chapters
WHAT CHAPTERS ARE IN REGION XI
ASHRAE REGIoN XI
Region XI is a geographical grouping of 11 local Chapters, serving a total of 3,170 Members. We are a unique and diverse Region, as we span four time zones across the western half of Canada and the northwestern corner of the United States. Traversing mountains, prairies, & oceans with various climates, we celebrate our differences, embrace our similarities, and are proud to work together to be Region XI.
Chapters Regional Conference (CRC) is held each fall or spring and offer a wonderful opportunity for chapters and members to meet, interact, and socialize on a regional level. These conferences offer workshops, technical sessions, technical tours, addresses by Society officers and staff, and regional award presentations. CRCs provide an effective local option for many members to actively participate in regional activities. Each chapter in the region has the opportunity to host on a rotating schedule.

LOCAL ORGANIZATION
ASHRAE Regina Chapter
The Regina Chapter is led by a volunteer group of officers who are elected by the chapter. These officers include: President, President-Elect, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The Regina Chapter combines the roll of President-Elect and Vice President. An important duty of the next year’s chapter President (current President-Elect / Vice President) is to appoint members to committees.
Each chapter must have the following mandatory standing committees: Chapter Technology Transfer, Government Affairs, Membership Promotion, Research Promotion (Past-President), Student Activities, and Young Engineers in ASHRAE. Chapters have the opportunity to create other optional committees.
The Chapter’s Board of Governors (BOG) typically consists of the chapter’s elected officers, the most recent Past-President, and the chair of each committee.
